Fall Trends 2010

Source: Harper’s Bazaar August 2010

We’re fast closing in on my favorite time of year – FALL, and along with it, fall fashion dahlin! This season, fashion is back to basics – runways were filled with colored fabrics and gorgeous/classic silhouettes. I’m loving the return of classic pieces that real women can wear in real life. These trends are sure to last a lifetime and not just a season. This of course makes me happy because it means you get more bang for the buck with your fashion. So, fashionistas take some notes and get ready for some fall fashion!

Michael Kors

The coat is THE fashion staple for fall and winter. And yes , you really can wear a coat in Southern California in Fall and Winter. Alternately just add camel to your wardrobe color palette – hard to go wrong with this color. For instance, this simple toffee-colored coat is versatile enough to pull off any look. Go casual and urban with denim or wear it to work with a pair of wide-leg trousers.

Can you say “meow” or “grrr”? I’m going with “grr”. From scarves and bags to blouses and vests, the feline is back and she’s all over the runways. A little scared to look like Cruella De Vil? Tone it down with gray and camel (maybe pair it with that camel coat?). Feel a little brave or want to channel Samantha? Brighten it up with a pop of color.

Fendi (Fur) & Chanel (Shearling)

Fur seemed to be very popular among the designers this year. It showed up in the form of boots, bags, and jackets and in a variety of colors, stripes, spots, and camo. Not a fan of animal fur? Here’s one place where I’ll say you can “faux” it. Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel showed off faux fur-trimmed tweed coats and pants. This is an investment piece, ladies – wear it with your favorite basics! Shearling is an alternative to a slouchy knit that can be draped over a cocktail dress.

J. Crew

Three words: clean, classic, and minimal. It’s the era of the razor-sharp jackets and full-legged trousers. Feminize it up with a killer heel and a fitted button-up. Invest in a menswear-inspired outfit, fashionistas because this trend is here to stay! I adore the classic look of a crisp Anne Fontaine shirt with tailored slacks. Work it like a working girl – AND I don’t mean THAT kind of working girl. I mean the “I can bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan” variety.

May Yeung Jewelry

Select accessories that are essential for your wardrobe. Polish up your look with a statement handbag, a pointed-toe stiletto, a delicate chain necklace, or a simple charm bracelet like these from May Yeung Jewelry.

There seems to be a theme for this season: simplicity and classicism. Embrace it, love it, and wear it!
